Start the new year right by making sure your pet is happy and healthy! Taking care of our furry friends is a big commitment, and it can get pretty expensive. HI Now host Jobeth Devera is with Dr. Noele Tom at VCA University in Manoa to talk about the benefits of VCA’s CareClub program and the options pet owners have to make pet care more affordable.
Just like people, care for our pets depends on their age and specific needs. That’s why VCA offers different plans for pets in different life stages.
“Our VCA hospitals are excited to be able to offer our own wellness plans called CareClub,” says Dr. Tom. “It takes all of our ‘best medicine’ wellness recommendations and combines them into a plan most appropriate for each pet.”
These wellness services are offered at a great discounted price that you can pay for through monthly membership dues, making pet health care more affordable. Within each plan, you get unlimited exams, vaccinations needed for the year, blood work, heart worm and parasite screening, and microchip identification as well as free microchip service for the year. For those with senior pets, not to worry. VCA’s senior plans include additional diagnostic screening tests. There’s even more robust PLUS plans that include either a spay or neuter for puppies and kittens or dental cleanings for adults and seniors.
In addition to considering spaying and neutering, general care for puppies and kittens includes getting three to four sets of vaccinations. Veterinarians also do fecal checks to look for intestinal parasites. This is also usually a good time to start them on heart worm and flea or tick preventatives.
As pets age, VCA’s general wellness screening gets more diverse as veterinarians begin to monitor for early indicators of changes in organ function, overall health and cancer screening. At this point, dental health also becomes increasingly important as well.
