Umbrella Marketing Team

th July, Umbrella Marketing Team welcomed Luca Carlassara on a work experience placement. 17 year old Luca was visiting from Monza, Italy, on a summer placement with a group of his school peers. Accompanied by their teachers, the group were looked after by our RIC neighbours The Language Guys. This was an opportunity for them to gain practical experience while practising their English. Staying with a local host family over in Hoole, Luca was based in our office for 3 weeks, as well as cramming in fun activities during weekends and evenings.

We were keen for Luca to be involved as much as possible. We were aware of his interest in web development and set tasks which would allow him to explore this further. Working alongside our team, his first task was to carry out maintenance on the Umbrella Marketing Team website. He worked on redesigning individual pages on the site, which provided experience in using the CMS.

He also spent some time shadowing Umbrella’s web developer, Cameron. This allowed him to learn from real practices and gain an insight into the day to day work of a web developer.

With guidance from the team, Luca was given a project which involved setting up a mock website for a client. This required him to showcase his design skills as well as web development skills. Luca was able to experience first hand the responsibilities of a web developer and attended mock client meetings we had set up with him. We were impressed by Luca’s response to each challenge.

We hope Luca and his group enjoyed their time in Chester, and he told us he found his time with us to be valuable in improving his skills in web development and gaining an insight into a professional environment. We wish him the best of luck in his studies and future career.
