The week ahead in sports, Oct. 22-28;

A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and nationally from the world of sports (all times Pacific):

Tuesday

Major League Baseball, World Series Game 1, Los Angeles Dodgers at Boston, 5 p.m. (Fox): The Dodgers needed seven games against Milwaukee to win the National League pennant and a return trip to the Fall Classic, where they will meet a Red Sox team that beat 2017 World Series champion Houston in five. Game 2 will be in Boston on Wednesday, then the series shifts to L.A. for Game 3 on Friday.

Thursday

NBA basketball, Washington at Portland, 7 p.m. (NBC Sports Northwest): After tipping off the new campaign with wins over the Western Conference rival Lakers and Spurs, the Blazers wrap up a three-game homestand against the Wizards from the East. Portland’s first road trip of the season, a four-gamer, starts Thursday at Orlando and includes stops at Miami, Indiana and Houston.

Friday

Prep football, Mountain View at Bend, 7 p.m. (COTV): The Cougars and Lava Bears both started fast in their first year in Class 6A, but both are riding losing streaks into the annual Civil War game. A 31-28 victory last year at Mountain View was the Cougars’ ninth win in the past 11 years in this crosstown series. With the state playoffs on the horizon, both teams badly need a win.

Saturday

College football, Oregon State at Colorado, noon (Pac-12 Network); Oregon at Arizona, 7:30 p.m. (ESPN): The ­Beavers and Ducks are on the road this week, both coming off disappointing defeats. The Beavs’ best chances for a Pac-12 win this season may be behind them now. Meanwhile, Oregon will try to rebound from a flat showing at Washington State when the Ducks travel to Tucson.

Saturday

Prep cross-country, Mountain Valley Conference Championships in Bend: Central Oregon Community College hosts the inaugural district championship meet for this first-year conference. Bend, Mountain View and Summit will match strides with the Salem area’s McKay, McNary, South Salem, Sprague and West Salem. The boys varsity race starts at noon, followed by the girls varsity at 12:45 p.m.
