The Cost of Social Media Marketing | Social Media Marketing Course
How much could you charge as a social media marketer?
The average salary for social media marketers in the UK is £29,000, but it varies. If you are qualified, experienced and have a great portfolio, you could earn more than that.
Our social media marketing course is for beginners, and even experienced digital marketers who want to develop their skills.
Some social media marketing agencies will charge as little as £100 per month, and some will charge up to £10,000+ per month. There are a lot of variants, including:
To give you an understanding of the factors that will influence pricing, have a look at the usual process of a social media marketer:
When starting work with a new client, you always start with a consultation to find out how the business is marketing and what they want to achieve. The initial consultation is usually free. From there you can see how much work is required. In the early stages, you are trying to get to know them and their business.
After the initial consultation, there is usually more communication (calls / meetings) in order to fully understand the business and to develop a strategy going forward. The communication is essential. Depending on the length of the calls / meetings, they could cost around £50 to £150. You could also work with businesses that are already big on social media, but just need their accounts managed. If that’s the case, then they will only need a 30-60 minute call / meeting.
Other times, you could work with businesses that aren’t on social media and don’t understand what social media is all about. If that is the case, you will probably spend a lot of time explaining and educating them about how important social media is for businesses nowadays, and what you can do to help.
Once you have a strategy in place, we get to work on setting up the social media pages.
When setting up with a new client, you often just have to take their accounts and re-design them. Other times, you will have to set them up from scratch. Your setup fee should include all the design work that goes into the pages: logo sizing, cover images and all the relevant information that is required.
Some social agencies charge from £20 to £250 per platform.
Management / Ongoing support
Social media management is where you will post on behalf of your client, and you will also respond to comments / messages. You’ll find a vast range of prices for social media management, ranging from £50 to £2,000 per month.
Personally I’d be wary of anyone charging as little as £50. Chances are the content they post won’t be relevant to your audience and they won’t monitor the account daily.
As you can see, social media marketing isn’t cheap. But if you know social media, then you know it requires a lot of time and effort. It’s not easy, which is why a lot of businesses outsource it.
As a social media marketer, it is your job to get to know their business and work out what sort of voice they want to have online. It’s important to get it right.
