Spring Sports Teams Ready for Championships
George School sports teams have had a remarkable spring season this year. Teams will be competing in the Friends Schools League (FSL) semifinals, championships, and the Quaker Cup this weekend.
The varsity girls’ lacrosse team will travel to Germantown Friends School (GFS) to take on the Tigers in the FSL semifinals on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. “We hope to see lots of cheering fans at the game!” said Varsity Head Coach Nancy Bernardini. “This team has come a long way and should certainly be proud of their accomplishments as a team. It is not an easy task to get into the playoffs.”
The girls’ and boys’ track teams will compete in the FSL championship at George School on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Members of the track team recently ran in the 124th Penn Relays in the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays with both 4×400 teams setting season records.
The varsity girls’ softball team earned the number one seed this spring and will be home for the FSL championship. The team will be playing Friends’ Central School on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. The team had a standout performance this season, having a winning streak of ten games in a row, which started off with Caitlyn Mihalik ’20 pitching a no-hitter game near the start of the season.
The varsity baseball team will host the FSL Quaker Cup Championship game against Friends Select School on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
The varsity boys’ tennis team will travel to GFS to take on the Tigers in the FSL semifinals on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. They secured a spot in the FSL playoffs with their recent victory over Moorestown Friends School (MFS) 3-2. Earlier this season, they won three FSL matches in a row.
The varsity golf team earned a tie for first place and will host the league championship. It was a three-way tie with Shipley and MFS. The FSL golf championship will take place on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Middletown Country Club. Spectators will be limited to the clubhouse during the tournament.
