Villemaire, Adams named Athletes of the Week

CORTLAND — Freshman forward Kirsten Villemaire and graduate goalkeeper Taylor Adams have been selected as the SUNYAC Women’s Soccer Athletes of the Week, as announced by the office Monday.

Villemaire has been honored as the Offensive Athlete of the Week after playing a vital part of the Cardinals offense in their two wins this week.

She scored two goals, including the game-winner in Plattsburgh State’s 1-0 victory over RPI on Saturday and also scored the Cardinals’ second goal in their 2-0 win against Union on Tuesday.

Villemaire had seven shots on goal and recorded an .875 shot-on-goal percentage.

Meanwhile, Adams recorded two clean sheets for Plattsburgh, playing all 180 minutes in their two games this past week.

She recorded 10 saves between the two games.

Adams is now 4-0 this season with three shutouts.

Gilligan records hole-in-one

PORT KENT — On Sept. 7, Jim Gilligan recorded his first career hole-in-one on the 145-yard sixth hole at Harmony Golf Club.

His ace was witnessed by Al Thompson, Mark Donohue and Greg Donahue.

PSU women’s hockey golf tournament

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team will be hosting its second-annual fundraising golf tournament on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. at Bluff Point Golf Resort.

The cost of golf and dinner is $100, while an alumnae and friends sponsorship costs $100. A corporate sponsorship costs $250, while dinner without golf costs $20.

Club Championship Tournament results

WILLSBORO — The Willsboro Women’s Golf Association recently held this year’s final meeting of the season to announce the winners of the Club Championship Tournament.

Barbara McGee of Plattsburgh won the club championship for the first time and was also the tournament chair along with Renee Lewis from Essex.

Maryellen Wukovits from Willsboro came in as runner-up for Flight A.

Flight B winner, Maura Dickerson, is from Willsboro, and the Flight C winner was Bobbi Paye.

Dry Dock Open slated for Sept. 29

PLATTSBURGH — The Barracks will host the Dry Dock Open Golf Tournament Saturday, Sept. 29 with a shotgun start at noon.

This is a 3-person scramble with all par-3 holes being an aggregate score.

Only one member with a single-digit handicap can be used per team.

Minimum team handicap is 35.

Seniors with an established handicap can play from the Senior tees.

Women will play from the Red tees, and all others will play from the White tees.

Non-members will be charged $65 for greens fees and cart, and dinner to follow at the Dry Dock.

Members will be charged $50.

Skins are not included and are $30 per team.

Cash prizes will be based on number of entries.

The first 30 teams that are paid in full will be participating.

To enter, sign up at the Barracks and/or the Dry Dock.

Chazy Youth Hockey meeting

CHAZY — Chazy Youth Hockey will be having its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Scotts’ Memorial Rink.
