Lowell High School football coach Noel Dean announced his retirement on June 28, 2018 at the school in Lowell, Mich.  [ +  – ]

on Thursday after accumulating a 219-41 record and three state championship in six title game appearances.

Even with all of his success between the lines, Dean’s impact at Lowell goes well beyond athletics. His players will talk about the life lessons given to them and the community will point out his community service projects like .

“I always tell the parents at my parent meeting that nobody is going to rally around your rushing title 10 years from now,” Dean said. “They’re going to rally around the team experience, so embrace it. Whenever I’ve gone back to reunions, we don’t sit around saying how awesome you were, we talk about the team experiences. Those will be the things I remember the most.”
