Winamac boys record win at Hebron
HEBRON — Winamac’s stingy defense traveled well on Thursday night at Hebron.
The Warriors recorded a 49-28 win for their fourth straight victory.
Calvin Larkin had 16 points and Will Larkin scored 13 for the Warriors (6-2). Austin Brandt added eight.
Winamac led 13-8 after one quarter, 22-10 at halftime and 41-20 after three.
Jake Friel had eight points to lead the Hawks (1-6). He entered averaging 17.5 ppg.
The two teams could meet again in Sectional 34 action.
Winamac next travels to South Central (Union Mills) on Dec. 28 to take on the Satellites in Winter Classic play. West Central will visit Argos. The classic concludes on Dec. 29 at West Central.
Jennings scores 20 in Butler’s win over OSU
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Whitney Jennings scored 20 points in the Butler women’s basketball team’s 66-53 win over Ohio State on Thursday afternoon at the West Palm Beach Invitational.
The 2014 Miss Basketball from Logansport added five rebounds and three assists for the Bulldogs, who improved to 9-1 on the season.
Michelle Weaver tied her career high with 25 points for the Bulldogs.
Butler’s defense eliminated Dorka Juhasz from the equation. Ohio State’s (4-4) top scoring threat only took three total shots and would end the contest with two points in 22 minutes.
Butler plays Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. today in day two of the event.
Adaway scores 18 in Miami of Ohio win
OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Nike Sibande had 24 points and Jalen Adaway 18 as Miami (Ohio) ran past South Carolina State 79-55 on Thursday night.
Miami (Ohio), which has won four of its last five games, regrouped after falling to Northern Kentucky on Sunday.
Sibande, who scored 18 in the first half, finished with 24 points, hitting 9 of 16 from the floor. Logansport’s Adaway made 8 of 11 field-goal attempts and added seven rebounds. Dalonte Brown added 11 and Darrian Ringo had six assists and five steals for the Redhawks (7-5).
South Carolina State trailed 21-20 with 8:46 remaining in the first half. Sibande and Brown drained back-to-back 3s to rally as the Redhawks finished the first half on a 28-6 run to lead 49-26. The Bulldogs rallied in the final half to close to 59-37 after a Lavar Harewood jumper capped the run at the 12:26 mark.
Damani Applewhite had 13 points to go with seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (2-12).
Miami returns to action Dec. 30 against Evansville.
Washington St. shoots past SIUE
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Robert Franks scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season as Washington State beat SIU-Edwardsville 89-73 on Wednesday night.
CJ Elleby added 18 points and eight rebounds for Washington State (7-3) despite being in foul trouble for the last ten minutes of the game.
David McFarland scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds before fouling out for SIUE (2-7). Brandon Jackson added 13 points and five rebounds.
Logansport’s Carter Skaggs got the start and had seven points and three boards in 15 minutes of action for the Cougars. He’s averaging 8.7 ppg.
Washington State plays San Diego on Saturday.
