Show Aloha Land at the Aloha Stadium offered the community six weeks of dazzling holiday entertainment during a year when aloha was needed the most. Mike Gangloff personally invested his own time and money to see his vision of bringing people together come to life.
“I’m sure many thought it was a crazy idea at the beginning, but my team and I were determined to deliver a wonderful Christmas-themed event for the community at a time when so much was being taken away from us,” Gangloff says. “Show Aloha Land showed us that aloha is alive even in the midst of the pandemic.”
Show Aloha Land was a fundraiser for the SAC Foundation. It’s a nonprofit that was established during the pandemic to address the needs in the community. Many were hurting and many had to go without. Show Aloha Land helped to raise funds to support the foundation’s ongoing efforts to reach out to keiki and kupuna to make sure they had food and other basic necessities. This year, the nonprofit aims to start a new program with the installation of safety devices and other retrofits to make homes senior-friendly to allow kupuna to age in place.
The SAC Foundation also partnered with Make-A-Wish Hawaii and donated $40,000 of the proceeds from Show Aloha Land to the worthwhile organization. The event was extended by a week and held VIP events for the Make-A-Wish Hawaii families to honor them.
To top it all off, the SAC Foundation also gave away prizes to thank those who attended Show Aloha Land. The nonprofit held a computer-generated drawing to pick 10 lucky winners. Eight of the winners received a briefcase filled with $500 in cash and there were two other grand prizes: keys to brand new vehicles! One for a Ford Explorer XLT and the other a Ford F-150 Super Crew.
“The prizes were our way of expressing our sincere mahalo to the community and to help them start 2021 on a positive note for these 10 lucky winners,” Gangloff adds.
Gangloff hopes to bring the event back, bigger and better, for the holidays in 2021.
