PC: Marine Institute Maui Ocean Center. NOAA Permit 21260

In partnership with NOAA Fisheries, MOC Marine Institute is responsible for responding to sick, injured, distressed, and otherwise compromised sea turtles on the island of Maui, Hawaiʻi.

MOCMI’s Sea Turtle Response Team has responded to more than 260 calls in 2020 and has successfully removed fishing gear from 179 green sea turtles.

To report a sea turtle in need of help, contact:

  • 808-286-2549 (Maui)
  • 888-256-9840 (NOAA Statewide Response Line)

Thanks to a generous donation from the Stevens Family this summer, the MOC Marine Institute opened the Stevens Family Honu Rescue Lab, the first dedicated lab for the care and treatment of sea turtles on Maui.

MOCMI works collaboratively with its partners at NOAA Fisheries to provide rehabilitative care and treatment to sea turtles in need of help.

Help support MOC Marine Institute’s Sea Turtle Stranding Response Program by symbolically adopting a rescued Hawaiian green sea turtle.

Adoptions directly benefit the conservation of Hawaiian green sea turtles on the island of Maui, Hawaiʻi.

According to the MOCMI, when you adopt a rescued honu, you will receive a link and password to an interactive website and map to track sightings of your adopted honu.
