ROUNDUP: Friday’s prep sports scores

Watseka opened the season in fine fashion, posting a 20-14 win at Oakwood on Friday in the season opener for both teams.

Justin McTaggert rushed for 127 yards on 26 attempts and scored two touchdowns to lead the Warriors (1-0). Senior quarterback Anthony Quinn completed 9-of-23 passes for 87 yards on the night.

Watseka recovered a fumble by Quinn in the end zone for a touchdown in the first quarter before Oakwood answered to knot the game at 7-7 later in the quarter. That’s where it stood at the half.

McTaggert dove in from a yard out with 1 minute and 58 seconds left in the third quarter to tie the game at 14-14. McTaggert added a 9-yard TD jaunt midway through the fourth quarter for the eventual winning score.

Blake Castonguay caught 5 passes for 66 yards, and Jameson Cluver caught four balls for 16 yards.

Watseka (1-0) travels to Salt Fork next week.

Fieldcrest 34, Reed-Custer 20

The Comets battled on the road at Fieldcrest, taking a 13-6 lead after one quarter before falling behind 18-13 at halftime.

Fieldcrest led 26-20 after three quarters and put the game away with a TD in the fourth.

After A.J. Cherry caught a pass from Josh Loomis, he fumbled into the end zone, and it was recovered by the team for a touchdown. Then, Cherry completed a 74-yard pass to Blake Foster on a trick play for a TD and a 13-6 lead.

Loomis’ TD run and a 2-yard run by Nicholas Mitchell both came in the second half for the Comets (0-1).

Loomis completed 15-of-22 passes for 152 yards and rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown to lead the Comets.

Justin Read caught seven passes for 106 yards.

Reed-Custer (0-1) hosts Chicago Brooks on Friday.

Ottawa Marquette 28, Dwight 7

Chris Bement caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Colton Holm to pull even with Marquette at 7-7 with 7:38 left in the third quarter. Marquette scored three unanswered touchdowns to put the game away.

Carson Crouch rushed for 53 yards on 9 attempts to pace Dwight, and Logan Graham added 50 yards on 14 carries. Holm completed 5 of 5 passes for 61 yards and the score.

Dakota Wahl hauled in two passes for 40 yards, and Bement finished with two catches for 21 yards.

Dwight (0-1) hosts Westville on Friday.

Bismarck-Henning 34, Iroquois West 19

Nolan Ahlden finished with 22 carries for 188 yards and two touchdowns as the Raiders fell Friday.

Tibaldo Alvarez also threw a touchdown pass to Cole Stone.

Iroquois West (0-1) hosts Hoopeston on Friday.

Peotone 57, Peoria Manual 12

The Blue Devils opened the season with a big win against visiting Manual.

Ryan Brewer rushed for 94 yards on 15 rushes and scored two touchdowns, and Branden Bias added 66 yards on 13 attempts and three touchdowns to pace the Devils.

Nate Battiato ran the ball six times for 44 yards and a TD. Max Gesswein completed one pass for 11 yards and added 31 yards rushing with a touchdown.

Defensively, Hunter Brunke had a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Peotone (1-0) travels to Tinley Park on Friday.

Greorgetown-Ridge Farm 20, Central 6

No stats were reported. Central (0-1) travels to Herscher on Friday.

Manteno 2, Neuqua Valley 1

Colton Holland and Kevin Roel scored a goal each, as the Panthers picked up a huge win in the Bradley-Bourbonnais invitational.

Scott Eldridge and Alec Miller each had an assist, and Elliot Nicks finished with nine saves.

Bishop McNamara 4, Beecher 3

Preston Lade scored a goal with just two minutes left for the Irish victory. Damon Saathoff also scored for the Irish.

For Beecher, Mitch Landis, Gage Beck and Brendan Loonam-Para tallied goals for the Bobcats, and Miguel Herrera had five saves.
