Red Cross Honors Kim Chamberlain: Hawaii Island’s 2021 Volunteer of the Year

Posted on March 18, 2021

Updated: October 15, 2022

The American Red Cross is proud to congratulate its 2021 Volunteers of the Year! Each year, March is recognized as Red Cross Month, and the organization takes the opportunity to put the spotlight on the dedicated and hard-working volunteers that make Red Cross relief efforts possible. The Volunteer of the Year serving Hawaii Island is Kim Chamberlain.

Chamberlain has been a volunteer with the Red Cross since 2016 and has since volunteered over 22,560 hours to aid the community. Over the years, she has been in charge of disaster action team dispatch, ensuring that humanitarian resources are put to the best use to respond to any emergency situations. Having begun her Red Cross journey in Honolulu, she moved to the Big Island in 2019 and has become a standout member of the team.

The past year has been an active one for her, as she was at the forefront of updating and training others on a new system to streamline Red Cross relief casework. That, along with her disaster relief operations, made for the over 7,190 hours she volunteered in 2020 alone. Chamberlain’s dedication is invaluable, and it’s no wonder that the Red Cross of Hawaii County could not run without her. She truly embodies the spirit and mission of the Red Cross to prevent and alleviate suffering in the face of disaster.

Congratulations and thank you for all you do, Kim Chamberlain, Hawaii Island’s 2021 Red Cross Volunteer of the Year!
