Pacific Whale Foundation is bringing back its annual “Run & Walk for Whales” event this February. Sponsored in part by Bank of Hawai‘i, this year’s fundraiser will be held virtually from Feb. 1 to 28, 2022.

Individuals from around the world are invited to join PWF’s mission and walk, jog or run 14.9 miles, the distance from the organization’s world headquarters in Mā‘alaea, Maui to its retail Ocean Store in Lahaina. All global participants will have 28 days to complete this challenge by tracking their progress on the Strava app. For those who want to push themselves even further, PWF also offers an Endurance Challenge in which runners and walkers can set their own goals.

“The Run & Walk for Whales has long been a cornerstone of our Maui Whale Festival programming, and we are excited to have it return virtually this year,” said Kristie Wrigglesworth, executive director of  Pacific Whale Foundation. “This signature event gives us the opportunity to unite with runners and walkers across the world for the common goal of protecting whales and dolphins.”

The participation fee is $50 per person, and all proceeds benefit Pacific Whale Foundation’s Research, Education and Conservation programs. After registering, runners and walkers will receive access to the event’s Facebook group where they can engage with other members and encourage each other throughout the journey.

Upon completion, participants will receive an official Virtual Run & Walk for Whales 2022 medal, and the top three fundraisers will receive a PacWhale Eco-Adventures eco-friendly bag.

Interested participants can learn more and register for the challenge online.
