The state Department of Health, Maui District Health Office closed its drive up vaccination clinic early on Wednesday amid inclement weather.
The clinic at the University of Hawaiʻi College campus in Kahului was shut down at around 11 a.m. An estimated 330 vaccination doses were administered before the closure.
Officials said they had invited about 450 individuals for their second dose yesterday. Public Health Planner Bridget Velasco said the clinic had good flow and were 3/4 done when the rain came and the early closure went into effect.
The 100+ individuals who were affected by the early closure were contacted via email or phone call and were instructed to come on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 instead.
The Maui Police Department’s Community Resources Section was on hand assisting with operations and helped to facilitate the early closure.
As a reminder, the UHMC clinic is a closed Point of Distribution site, and only administers the Moderna vaccine at this time. Those who get a first dose of Moderna, should get a second dose of Moderna vaccine approximately four weeks later.
The site does not accept walk-ins and vaccinations are by appointment only for individuals identified in priority grouping.
