Feb. 17, 1954 – Jan. 27, 2021
Daniel Edward Cortez, 66, of Kula, Maui passed away at his home on Jan. 27, 2021. He was born on Feb. 17, 1954 in Puʻunene, Maui to Pedro and Dolinda Cortez.
Daniel was a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He retired from a life-long career in the construction industry as a very skilled carpenter. He helped many family and friends build their dream homes. He was never too tired or busy to help anyone in need. Daniel loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping.
Visitation will be held at Norman’s Mortuary on Friday, Feb. 12, 2021 from 10 am to 12 pm with private services to follow. Due to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, we advise for those in attendance to wear masks and apply social distancing.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife Terry Cortez and beloved daughter Danzelle Cortez; mother – Dolinda Cortez; siblings – Alvin (Stephanie) Cortez, Robin (Joni DeMello) Cortez, Leilani Cortez, Glen Cortez, Alisa Cortez and Gil Cortez; nieces, grandnephew and grandniece. He was predeceased by his father Pedro Cortez.

June 21, 1946 – Jan. 25, 2021
Israel Kaulupali, 74, passed peacefully on Jan. 25, 2021 at his home in Kahului, Maui. He was born on June 21, 1946 in Hilo, HI.
From Hilo to Waimanalo to Maui, Israel was a true Kanaka. He loved the ocean, patching fishing nets, playing his guitar, singing his old Hawaiian music, cooking for his Ohana and friends, and enjoying his retirement relaxing and always spreading his Aloha.
He is survived by his wife Andrea Kaulupali; daughters Rachel (Micah) Kaulupali, Rose (Makilya) Tanner, Ginger (Matt) Davids, Grace Kealoha, Tracy (Jeff) Pudrina and Kasey Keohohina; sons Ioane (Sarah) Kaili, Jacob Tanner, Gerald (Cheryl) Wan, David Keohohina, Shawn Keohohina, Isaac Keohohina, Israel (Kauluwehi) Vierra, and James ( Maka) Kaili; Brother Timothy (Darla) Nathaniel; and sisters Peaches Dooley, Philbarthe Kaili and Clare (Rodney) Kaleleiki.
He also loved his “babies” — his dogs Reese, Rusty and Mocha; his bird Bella; and his Cove Park Brothers Ohana.

Kathleen Ann Hass
April 16, 1946 – Jan. 20, 2021
Kathleen Ann Hass, 74, passed peacefully in Kihei, HI on Jan. 20, 2021. Kathy was born April 16, 1946 in LaCrosse, WI to parents Howard and Arlene Hass.
Kathy earned her nursing degree through the Navy Nursing Scholarship Program at St. Olaf College, MN. She served three years active duty with the US Navy, followed by 43 years of service with the Veterans Administration.
In 1977, she earned a Masters in Nursing with honors from Marquette University in Wisconsin.
Kathy moved to Maui in 1988 to establish the Maui VA clinic, later supervising all Hawaiʻi and Pacific VA clinics. During this time she served 20 years in the naval reserves, retiring as Captain in 2012.
Kathy was an avid sportswoman who excelled in golf and tennis. She was a member of the Kihei-Wailea Rotary and volunteered numerous hours with AARP and Meals on Wheels.
Surviving Kathy is her loving companion Gloria Robson, who shared her love of worldwide travel; brothers David Hass (Katrina) and Timothy Hass (Rue).
Family and friends will gather in Kihei at a later date for a paddle-out ceremony. Donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or AARP Hawaiʻi.
Lee Bronson Kaulana Ikaika Park
March 1, 1984 – January 17, 2021
Lee Bronson Kaulana Ikaika Park, 36, from Maui, passed away Jan. 17, 2021 in Waianae, Oahu. He was born March 1, 1984, in Wailuku, Maui.
Bronson was humble, hilarious, hard working, always willing to help and he will be missed tremendously.
He attended Kahului Elementary and made his way up to King Kekaulike High School.
When he was a toddler he loved his Legos and his mother’s pots and pans. Bronson played baseball for the REDS alongside his bradahs Tyrone and Vyktah.
As a young man, hunting became his passion. Bronson was adventurous. He loved the outdoors, especially the mountains. Kuhiwa Puka was his choice of hunting grounds and he would always stop to get a strand of Maile to bring home.
He also farmed patches and patches of Ti leaf with his dad. Bronson enjoyed fishing and picking black crab and limu, where the ocean became his tranquility.
He had worked for the Roofers Union Local 221.
Bronson is survived by his mother Renita Kaikala; father Leland Boteilho (Mavis); his son Kaeson-Lee Ku’umakanamakamae Montalvo-Park; sisters Janice Park (Carlton), Malia Kaikala and Ebony Kaikala; brother Kalei Kaikala; nephew Cj; tita Jacqueline Pullman and bradahs Victor Pullman, Tyrone Pullman and Kanoa Santos; and many aunty’s, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, titas and bradahs.
Bronson will be cremated and kept at home until it is safe for family & friends to come together to lovingly celebrate his life.
Alida “Jackie” Martin
June 2, 1950 – Jan. 26, 2021
Alida Jacqueline “Jackie” Martin, 70, of Ninole, HI, died on Jan. 26, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired cafeteria Manager at Laupahoehoe School.

Alida is survived by her companion, Edwin Pavao of Ninole, HI; son, Michael Martin of Lāhaina, HI; daughters, Michelle (Jered) Santos of Kahului, HI; Jaclyn (Brandon) Mathias of Waikapu, HI; brother, Alfred Lee Jr. of Pahoa, HI; sister, Clara Lee of Hilo, HI; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, Mervin Martin; Father, Alfred Lee Sr.; Mother, Alida Lee; Sister, Florence Lee-Morante.

Cecilia Bermudez Agustin, 96, of Kahului, Maui, passed away peacefully on Jan. 17, 2021 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born on Feb. 1, 1924 in Camiling, Tarlac, Philippines.
Cecilia arrived in Hawai’i in 1966 with her sons Domingo and Wilfred on the SS President Wilson ship. She worked at Maui Land and Pineapple Company as a field worker and afterwards she moved to HC&S, where she worked for 20 years before retiring.
During her retirement she enjoyed working around the house, cooking for her family and watching her grandchildren grow up. She was a loving, generous and caring mother, grandmother, aunty and friend.
She is survived by her daughter Virginia (Virgilio “Leo”) Agcolicol; daughter-in-law Concepcion Agustin; Grandchildren Valerie (Malcolm) Aguirre, Cynthia (Jason) Higgins, Karen Agustin, Kyle Agustin and Skye (John) Laycox; Great-Grandchildren Kekoa, Ka’iulani, Kaimana, Keira, Ciara and Kalena.
She is also survived by her sisters Prisca B. Feliciano, Prisca B. Polo, Julieta Bermudez, Donicia B. Bernardino, Adelina B. Cortez, Patricia B. Guiyab of the Philippines and brother Eduardo (Mely) E. Bermudez of NY; and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her Husband, August S. Agustin, sons Sabino Agustin, Domingo Agustin, Wilfred Agustin and brother Paulino Bermudez.

July 28, 1934 – Jan. 16, 2021
Franklin Roosevelt Yangson, 86, of Captain Cook, HI died Jan. 16, 2021 in Captain Cook. He was born July 28, 1934, in Moanaloa, Moloka”i.
Franklin had an AA degree at Pasadena City College and worked eight more years of night school studying calculus and other required courses for Engineering.
He formed his own company in Los Angeles South Bay called Yangson Design Mechanical Engineering Company. At Hughes Aircraft Company, he designed the Satellite Traveling Wave Tube which is still in space today.
He also worked on the Apollo Space Program, TRW, General Motors electric car and various other aerospace companies. In September 1999 he retired from General Motors and spent his retirement years in beautiful Kona, HI, fishing, diving and hunting.
He is survived by spouse Jane; son Franklin Yangson, Jr. of Kailua-Kona; daughter Kathryn (Michael) Barr of Los Angeles; sisters Maryln Yangson of Kailua-Kona; Jeanette Dacoscos of San Francisco; two grandchildren and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
Private services will be held.

Stephan Paul Zulawinski, 68, of Ocean View, HI died Jan. 15, 2021 in Ocean View. He was born April 10, 1952, in Gary, IN.
Stephan worked as a Union Electrician, Local 697.
He is survived by spouse Patti; step-son Adam Marzullo of Valparaiso, IN; brother Mark (Diana) Zulawinski of Hobart, IN; one grandchild, niece and step-grandson.

May 13, 1944 – Jan. 13, 2021
Glicerio Nelson Saribay Sr., 76, of Lahaina, Maui passed away on Jan. 13, 2021 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born in the Philippines to Nieves Somera Saribay (deceased Mother) and Alfredo (Elizabeth) Saribay (both deceased).
He worked at the Pioneer Mill in Lahaina for many years before it closed. He also worked at the Sheraton and at Aina Nalu and the Marriott in Kāʻanapali, where he retired.
Services for Nelson were held Feb. 6, 2021 at Norman’s Mortuary in Wailuku.
He is survived by his loving wife Lydia Garcia Saribay; daughters Susie (Stacey) Arcangel and Donna (Joseph) Keanini; son Glicerio Nelson (Jana) Saribay Jr.; 10 grandchildren Joshua (Grace) Saribay, Jordan Saribay, Tia (Ralph) Keanini-Sumida, AnnaStaceya (Anthony) Pang, David (Tasha) Arcangel, Josten Saribay, Jhene Saribay, Kara “Makana”Saribay Dean, Tyson Keanini and Nelson “Kapono”Saribay Dean; 6 great grandchildren Logan and Teagan Keanini-Sumida, Jace, Jori and Jett Saribay and Charleigh Jade Arcangel. Deceased brother Samuel (Elsie) Saribay Sr.; step siblings Mary (Yosuke) Fukagawa, Dolores Sato, Elizabeth (George) Marcinick, Lori Sablas, Gilbert (Vicki) Sablas, Normen Sablas, Cynthia Sablas, Malcolm Sablas (deceased) and Barbara (Wallace) Enouijas (both deceased).

Standford Kaala Wong, 74, of Volcano, HI, died Jan. 25, 2021 at Pohai Malama. Born in Honolulu, he was retired from Telephone Communication Services of Hawai’i and a US Army Veteran.

Standford is survived by his spouse Henrietta “Peni” E. K. Bechert-Wong of Volcano, HI; sons Scott Wong, Stewart Wong, Spencer (Amber) Wong and Robert Wong; and 4 grandchildren.

Richard John Mitchell, 91, of Hilo, HI, died on Jan. 20, 2021 at Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Turano, Canada, he was a retired office worker for Triple A.

Richard is survived by his spouse Norma Mitchell of Keaau, HI; and daughter Debbie Mitchell.
