A visitor was pulled unresponsive Saturday from South Maui waters.
The incident was reported at 1:13 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019.
Maui Ocean Safety and fire personnel responded to assist a snorkeler in the area of the Kamaole point (between Kamaole 2 and Kamaole 3 beach parks).
Ocean Safety officers at Kamaole 2 reportedly observed the victim and her husband snorkeling and recognized they needed assistance. They immediately responded and assisted the unresponsive female victim on to the shoreline, according to department reports.
Ocean Safety officers began lifesaving efforts and were further assisted by fire personnel and medics. Despite all efforts, the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim is described as a 64 year old female visitor from Kansas City.
Ocean conditions at the time were reported to be slightly choppy with winds approximately 15 mph.
