The island of Maui is under a flood advisory until 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021.

The National Weather Service says that at 1:19 p.m. radar showed heavy rain over the south slope of Haleakalā from ʻUlupalakua to Kaupō.

Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Another rain band will arrive over Maui within the next hour from the west. This rain will move eastward across Maui through the afternoon.

The NWS advises the public to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to not cross fast flowing or rising water a vehicle, or on foot. “Turn around, don’t drown,” the NWS advises.
