Looking for middle school championship photos

The Wilkes Journal-Patriot is looking for county/conference championship middle school baseball and softball photos from this season to put in our print edition.

If you have these photos, send them to wjpsports@wilkes.net. Make sure to identify every person in the photo (player, coach, manager, etc.).

Journal-Patriot looking for stringers

The Wilkes Journal-Patriot is looking for writers and photographers to help continue its coverage of Wilkes County athletics.

Duties would include attending games, keeping statistics, writing stories and taking photos to be published in the Journal-Patriot’s printed and online editions. There would also be some use of social media (primarily Twitter).

The job is primarily nights and some weekend work, mainly taking place from August-to-May. Writing and photography experience is preferred but not required, although a passion for sports, a good attitude and a willingness to learn are mandatory.

Wilkes Central Boys’ Basketball Camp

Wilkes Central will be conducting its boys’ basketball camp for rising 3rd-through-8th graders on June 11-13 from 8-to-11:30 a.m. at Wilkes Central High School gym.

Cost of the camp is $50 and flyers can be found at all Wilkes Central High feeder schools. You may pre-register or register the morning of June 11 at the school.

All campers will receive a camp T-shirt and lunch will be provided on the last day.

West Wilkes Baseball Camp

West Wilkes will be conducting two baseball camps for children on June 7-8 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the West Wilkes High School baseball field. Times are as follows:

Rising 3rd through 5th graders: 8-10 a.m.

Rising 6th-9th graders: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Cost of the camp is $40 and includes T-shirt. Registration will take place on the first day of camp and checks should be made out to: West Wilkes baseball.

East Wilkes Youth Soccer Camp

East Wilkes High School will be holding a youth soccer camp on June 14-16 from 8:30-to-11:30 a.m. on the East Wilkes practice field.

Cost is $40 and is open to any boy or girl entering 4th-through-9th grade. Campers should bring soccer cleats, shin guards, T-shirt, shorts and a great attitude.

Checks should be made payable to: East Wilkes High School.

East Wilkes Fast Pitch Camp

East Wilkes High School will be holding a fast pitch softball camp on June 18-20 from 9 a.m.-to-Noon on the East Wilkes softball field.

Cost is $50 and is open to any girl entering 3rd-through-9th grade. Campers should bring glove, bat, catcher’s gear (if you’re a catcher), batting helmet and cleats.

Checks should be made payable to: East Wilkes High School.

Wilkes Central Girls’ Basketball Camp

Wilkes Central will be conducting its girls’ basketball camp for rising 1st-9th graders on June 11-13 from 2-to-5 p.m. at the Wilkes Central High School Gym.

Cost of the camp is $45  before June 11 ($50 the day of the camp) and checks can be made payable to: WCHS Girls Basketball.

Vikings Youth Basketball Camp

North Wilkes will conduct its boys’ basketball camp for rising 3rd-through-8th graders on June 11-13 from 9 a.m.-to-Noon in the North Wilkes High School gym.

Cost of the camp is $50 and campers will receive a T-shirt. There are also discounts for families with multiple campers. Check in is from 8:30-to-9 a.m. on June 11 and lunch will be provided to campers on June 13.

Guest speakers will also be present at the camp.

Forms are available at elementary and middle schools in the North Wilkes district and in the office at North Wilkes High School. Please make checks payable to NWHS.

Lady Viking Basketball Camp

North Wilkes will conduct its girls’ basketball camp for rising 3rd-through-8th graders on June 11-13 from 2:30-to-5:30 p.m. in the North Wilkes High School gym.

Cost of the camp is $40 and campers will receive a T-shirt.

Forms are available at elementary and middle schools in the North Wilkes district and in the office at North Wilkes High School. Please make checks payable to NWHS.

North Wilkes Football Camp

North Wilkes will conduct its football camp for rising 3rd-through-8th graders on July 9-10 from 6-to-8:30 p.m. at the North Wilkes High School football practice field.

Cost of the camp is $30 and includes T-shirt and pizz.

Prospective campers register the night of the camp or send registration to Monty Chipman at North Wilkes High School.

Wilkes Central Volleyball Camp

Wilkes Central will be conducting its annual volleyball camp for rising 3rd-9th graders on June 30 from 9 a.m.-until-2 p.m. at the Wilkes Central High School gym.

Cost of the camp is $40 and prospective are encouraged to register early to a secure a T-shirt.

East Wilkes Tennis Clinics

East Wilkes High School will be offering tennis clinics for rising kindergarten-through-ninth grade students on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on June 19 and going until July 26 at the East Wilkes High School tennis courts.

The cost for each clinic is $5 and no pre-registration is required.  

The clinic for rising kindergarteners-through-3rd graders will be from 9-to-10 a.m., and will focus on fundamental skill development along with games to advance skill and love for the game. The clinic for rising 4th-through-9th graders will be from 10-to-11 a.m. There will be no clinic the week of July 4 (July 3 and July 5).

All clinics will be led by Head Coach Aaron Simmons along with former and current players from the East Wilkes tennis program.
