Kumu Vicky Holt Takamine hosts personal fundraiser for breast cancer awareness month
Sponsored by Susan G Komen Hawaii
Kumu Vicky Holt Takamine has been involved with Susan G Komen since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. “My mother was a breast cancer survivor, my grandmother died of breast cancer, and so I wanted to be very proactive,” says Vicky. More than ever, Vicky believes that women need to oversee their own health care, scheduling regular check ups and always being aware of their bodies.
This month is breast cancer awareness month, and Vicky is kicking it off with her own fundraiser, Hula for a Cure! When you register for the fundraiser, you’ll get an exclusive virtual lesson with Kumu Vicky with all proceeds going to Susan G Komen Hawaii. She’ll be teaching participants a beautiful mele from Julian Ako named Mapu Mau Ke Aloha. According to Julian, this mele is meant to be shared with someone you’ve lost. If you are interested in registering for Hula for a Cure, head to paifoundation.org for more information.
Don’t forget the Susan G Komen’s Race for the Cure is on October 17, and you can sign up for team Vicky and participate! Register for the race on the app or online at komenhawaii.org.
