Sponsored by Cutter Ford
Katsu sandwiches are a food craze that took the social media world by storm, and Katsu Sando 808 on Oahu is riding the wave! It was just named one of the island’s best sandwiches. HI Now host Kainoa Carlson stopped by to visit the food truck and got a taste of some of the fan favorites on the menu.
In 2019, Mark Szczepanski, along with his close longtime friend, David Hanus and Jerry Hanus, collaborated to pool their respective experience in the food industry and Japanese cuisine to open Katsu Sando 808. The food truck quickly developed a cult following at various farmer’s markets, including the Kakaako Farmers Market, the Kaiser High School Farmers Market, and during the week at Hickam Air Force Base. The delicious signature katsu sandwich is often pre-ordered in advance by a loyal base of customers.
Katsu Sando 808’s menu is made up of four main items: Tonkatsu Sando, Chicken Katsu Sando, Wagyu Menchi Katsu Burger, and Tamago Sando. It may be small, but each dish is made to perfection every time. Looking for some sides to go with those sandos? Don’t sleep on the food truck’s furikake or curry fries.
The food truck also offers specials from time to time like its Portobello Mushroom Katsu Sando and Chicken Katsu Plate. So be sure to follow on Instagram @katsusando808 to see the latest menu!
You can find Katsu Sando 808 Monday through Friday at Hickam Air Force Base from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Unfortunately for many, you will need base access to get to the truck. It’s also at Ft. Shafter Army Base on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3 – 6 p.m.
For those without base access, catch Katsu Sando 808 at the Kaiser Farmers Market on Tuesday from 4 – 6 p.m. or at the Kakaako Farmers Market from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
