Kathy Raethel retires after 20 years with Adventist Health Castle

Adventist Health Castle has been under the leadership of Kathy Raethel for the past two decades. And now, as the hospital passes the baton to new leadership, Adventist is honoring her excellence with a look back at her accomplishments as the staff bid her a hui hou.
Raethel joined the Castle executive team in 2000 as the vice president of patient care and has served as president since 2011. During her tenure, Adventist Health Castle earned numerous quality and care awards, including the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2017.
“When I first came to Castle back in June 2000, I sensed how special this place was. Throughout my 20 years here, I have fallen in love with our organization and the associates, physicians and volunteers who are such an integral part of what we do,” Raethel said. “I am most proud of the stories I hear on a daily basis of the ways we have made a difference in the lives of the patients we serve.”
Raethel spent 45 years in healthcare, with 20 of those years spent at Adventist Health Castle. Under her leadership, Castle has received many recognitions, like the Baldrige award, but in her mind, it’s not the awards themselves that are important.
“What they represent is all of the hard work that has gone into ensuring that patients receive the best care possible in every circumstance,” she said. “High levels of patient satisfaction and quality scores assure me that we are delivering care that is in the top tier nationally.”
As Raethel heads into retirement, she’s looking forward to spending more quality time with her grand children, and of course, volunteering.
