Kauai is home to some of Hawaii’s best kept secrets, and Holey Grail Donuts is surely one of them! Back in 2020, the family business ventured to Oahu and opened up a food truck in Kakaako. With lines continuously stretching around the corner, it’s no surprise that the business was looking to expand. Now in 2021, Holey Grail is excited to welcome customers to its new storefront at Ward Village Shops. HI Now host Kanoe Gibson got spoke with co-founder Nile Dreiling about the new digs.
“When you smell fresh donuts and hear vinyl hip-hop, you’ve likely arrived,” Dreiling says. “Our store allows us to showcase the whole donut making experience. I’m most excited about our incredible beverage program on tap, front and center.”
In addition to those beverages, Holey Grail will still be cranking out those Instagram-worthy donuts that are made-to-order and fried in organic coconut oil.
“They symbolize much more than your standard dough and sugar,” he adds. “Donuts are the perfect vessel to showcase our ecologically focused, artistic philosophy to food.”
Home of the original taro donut, Holey Grail Donuts was founded by Dreiling and his sister, Hana, in early 2018. It began as a “Sunday Ritual” out of a little red hamburger trailer in Hanalei on the island of Kauai. This ritual quickly developed a cultish following which led to over 45 minute waits, live DJ’s, and people lining up at 6:30 a.m. on a Sunday to try the donuts. The siblings started with a $100 fryer, a reincarnated” donut, and a quest to create the worlds most delicious donut experience.
Holey Grail Donuts has nearly 60 flavors, and the team there is constantly creating more as they find and source new ingredients. Join the following on Instagram @holeygraildonuts to see the latest flavors at the new Kakaako storefront at Ward Village Shops!
