For the first time, consumers now have access to improved varieties of sustainably produced organic Hoodia plants and seeds to grow their own fresh cuttings for personal use in their appetite control and weight loss efforts!
Last year Sustainable Bioresources, LLC began limited sales of seeds and plants of Hawaiian Hoodia, the world’s first improved varieties of Hoodia developed for sustainable cultivation. Hoodia is a group of thorny, bitter-tasting, cactus-like succulent plants in the plumeria family mostly from the desert areas of southern Africa. They are one of only several plants known to discourage animals from eating them by killing their appetite. The Hoodia have been used by the indigenous peoples of the area for thousands of years to curb their hunger when food was in short supply.
The new Hawaiian Hoodia plants and seeds from Sustainable Bioresources, developed after 15 years of research, now provide a way for people to grow their own home supply of fresh, organic Hoodia for appetite suppression as a way to help meet their weight loss goals. All of its plants are Certified Naturally Grown (organic) at its Hawaii Department of Agriculture certified nursery on Hawaii Island and carry the prestigious Hawaii Seal of Quality.
Sustainable Bioresources is a small, veteran owned, development stage agricultural research and development company founded in Maryland in 2006. In 2013, the company moved to its current location near Naalehu in the Kau District of Hawaii Island. It conducts much of its research and field trials in collaboration with other farms, businesses and organizations located in Arizona, Hawaii and Africa. Its research primarily involves selection and development of new cultivars for sustainable production and novel uses for materials to be derived from these plants including biopesticides and pharmaceuticals. Most of its current research is focused on Moringa and anorectic (appetite suppressing) plants such as Hoodia.
