Hawaiian Airlines Opens Pre-Travel COVID-19 Testing Site at Long Beach Airport

Posted on January 13, 2021

Updated: October 2, 2022

Long Beach Airport, in partnership with Hawaiian Airlines, today welcomed its first COVID-19 testing site, available exclusively for the airlines’ guests traveling to the Hawaiian Islands. Starting Jan. 16, the airport will also host a testing clinic open to all airline passengers.

“This is a welcome effort to add testing capacity for the City of Long Beach in a strategically important location,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “As we look ahead in 2021, Long Beach Airport is well-poised to take advantage of an eventual increase in demand for air travel.”

Hawaiian Airlines’ drive-through lab offers $90 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests with results provided within 36 hours.

The State of Hawai‘i currently exempts visitors and returning residents from quarantine if they obtain a negative pre-travel COVID-19 test result by an approved testing partner no more than 72 hours before their scheduled departure time.

The airline, which offers five weekly nonstop flights between Long Beach and Honolulu and daily nonstop flights to Kahului, Maui starting March 9, partnered with Long Beach-based Worksite Labs, which administers the testing site daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the LGB main entrance located at 4100 Donald Douglas Dr. To learn more and to schedule a drive-through appointment, visit hawaiianairlines.com/WorksiteLabsTest.

The airport reports that currently, all of Southern California is under a Regional Stay at Home Order, and all non-essential travel is temporarily restricted. For those who have essential travel needs, LGB has instituted a number of measures to enhance passenger safety, including physical distancing, new disinfecting protocols and a face covering requirement.

The carrier also plans to expand its network of pre-travel testing locations to four additional US mainland gateway cities before spring, including Sacramento, San Diego, Portland and Phoenix.
