Sponsored by Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union
HCFCU was started by ten struggling Kona coffee farmers during the Great Depression who united to create a financial support system after banks refused them loans and services. When the sugar plantations closed, Kohala & Pa’auhau (Honoka’a) merged with HCFCU so the community would not lose its credit union services.
Community is at the heart of HCFCU. Each day, they strive to fulfill their legacy of being there for the community in good times and bad. Their philosophy is “people helping people.” They always operate under the mantra “people before profits.”
The Hilo branch opened 2.5 years ago to expand their reach and offer services and financial education opportunities to all of Hawaii Island.
