Get Ready to Shop: Celebrate Fukubukuro at International Market Place

Sponsored by International Market Place

Join International Market Place in celebrating the popular Japanese event, Fukukuburo! HI Now host Kainoa Carlson stopped by to learn more about what’s being offered at the center.

Fukubukuro is a Japanese New Year custom in which merchants make grab bags filled with unknown random contents and sell them for a substantial discount, usually 50 percent or more, off the list price of the items contained within.

The two-day event will feature “lucky bags” for purchase from participating merchants. When a customer purchases a Fukubukuro Bag from any of International Market Place’s participating retailers, they can present the bag to customer service where they’ll be able to pull from the center’s Lucky Draw. Every draw is a win! Prizes include gift cards ranging from $10 – $250, merchandise and even some 2-night hotel stays at Alohilani, The Laylow, Sheraton Waikiki and The Beachcomber!

In the spirit of Fukubukuro, all gifts will be a surprise. Guests can redeem one gift per Fukubukuro bag purchase, up to five gifts while supplies last.

Participating stores include:
ABC Stores
Crazy Shirts
L’Occitane en Provence
Martin & MacArthur
MCM Worldwide
Mitsuwa Marketplace
Pacific Harley-Davidson
Surf Line Hawaii
Vera Bradley

Come early to have the best selection! Be mindful of all mask and social distancing guidelines and be respectful of other shoppers. Purchase at least five Fukubukuro bags to draw up to five times from the Lucky Draw!
