Game Day Grindz: Gear up for football’s biggest night with DB Grill
Football’s biggest night is right around the corner, and game night isn’t complete without some ono pupus to snack on! HI Now host Kainoa Carlson is with Chef Brenton Lee, chef de cuisine at DB Grill and Mad Bene, to get a taste of some of the special dishes they have available for the big game.
One simple thing you can do during your watch party with the family is a sashimi platter! It’s also a good way to lighten things up when fried food is often the go-to during sporting events. Chef Lee is demonstrating what he calls “The Bigeye Stack,” a traditional sashimi platter with a Korean twist that you can try making at home. It includes local Bigeye tuna from Hawaii, apples, Korean pears, and white cabbage and white onion.
“Lots of crunchy, refreshing vegetables to pair with the fish,” he adds.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restaurants have had to pivot and get creative during these challenging times. That’s why Mad Bene and DB Grill partnered together in order to serve both menus out of the same kitchen.
“We’ve been lucky enough to still be open,” Chef Lee says. “You can get DB Grill, Mad Bene food kind of right in one area, so it’s kind of the best of both worlds. Nothing better than getting some wings, pizza, and a soju cocktail under the same roof.”
DB Grill is offering a special meal set for the big game that includes six soju cocktail to-go kits plus a tray of wings for $99. You can also get the “DB Grill Family Pack,” which includes kalbi, wings, DB Chicken, Mandoo, salad, banchan, and rice all for $50.
DB Grill and Mad Bene are located in Kapolei Commons, adjacent to the Regal Theaters and are open for dine-in, takeout and delivery. Orders may be placed online, over the phone, or in-person. To order, call the restaurant at (808) 744-7400 or order online at madbene.com.
