Former Expert360’s head of marketing, Michael Tan, has clinched the newly created role of head of growth and marketing position at FlexCareers.

FlexCareers is an Australian technology platform and consulting business that connects individuals with what it calls progressive employers. It has built a community of more than 110,000 (70 per cent women), and attracts over 200 new members daily.

“I believe that flexibility, diversity and equality are vitally important to today’s workforce,” Tan said in a statement.

“FlexCareers’ vision to change the world’s ways of working for the better resonated with me, and I was deeply impressed with by the quality of their leadership team and technology platform. It’s a project that speaks to my own personal and professional experiences and something I believe will be central to the future of work.”

Tan brings over 15 years of professional experience to the FlexCareers team, having worked across a diverse range of traditional and digital marketing leadership roles.

As one of the earliest team members at Expert360, Tan supported the business through a period of significant expansion. During his tenure, the online marketplace grew from 4500 consultants to over 19,000 consultants.

He specialises in designing and leading growth strategies to rapidly scale startups, a role he has performed across a diverse portfolio of companies, notably ZYB, the Danish mobile community sold to Vodafone in 2008.

He also worked as Telstra’s online marketing manager, responsible for the strategy, development and maintenance of telstraglobal.com, customer acquisition, lead nurturing and content.

As head of growth at FlexCareers, Tan said he will “lead a small team to do good work, for a good cause.”

“Taking a data driven approach, we methodically grow our community, engagement and ultimately business success,” he said.

FlexCareers CEO, Natalie Goldman, said she’s delighted to have Tan join the team.

Fairfax marketing chief to exit in September

“We’re excited to see how Michael will utilise his diverse skill set to drive the expansion of the FlexCareers community. As head of growth and marketing, he will play a crucial role in developing and executing the next phase of development for our company.”
