The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone, especially parents who are trying to keep their families healthy and safe. On today’s Mommy Moments, we’re speaking with Dr. Alan Wu about how you can boost your immunity as we continue to fight this disease.

Dr. Wu says there are a number of things you can do to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. He recommends avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
“When you are sick, stay home, and keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too,” he explains.
It’s also best to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Flu and other serious respiratory illnesses, like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), whooping cough, and COVID-19, are spread by cough, sneezing, or unclean hands. Dr. Wu says it’s also important to clean your hands often. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth. In general, practice other good health habits! Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
According to Harvard School of Medicine, the idea of boosting your immunity is enticing, but the ability to do so has proved elusive for several reasons. The immune system is precisely that — a system, not a single entity. To function well, it requires balance and harmony. There is still much that researchers don’t know about the intricacies and interconnectedness of the immune response. For now, there are no scientifically proven direct links between lifestyle and enhanced immune function.
Following general good-health guidelines is the single best step you can take toward naturally keeping your immune system working properly. Every part of your body, including your immune system, functions better when protected from environmental assaults and bolstered by healthy-living strategies.
