COLLEGE SPORTS: Herons get back to old form

GENEVA — The No. 8 Herons (7-2-0, 3-0-0) scored four first half goals to capture their third straight Liberty League soccer victory with a 5-1 win over Bard on Saturday.

Shelia McQuillen and Megan Barwick each scored 2 goals a piece in the win. Sophomore midfielder Merilyn Hinricks also added a goal.

Sophomore forward Amanda Adams dished out 2 assists. Julia Keogh, Maialen, and Sarah Olick-Sutphen each tallied one assist.

William Smith used all four of their goalies in the win.

Keuka 3, Lancaster Bible 0

LANCASTER, Pa. — The Wolves (6-3, 5-0) pitched their fifth consecutive shutout of the season. The team hasn’t allowed a goal since a 2-1 loss to Alfred University on Sept. 8.

Freshman midfielder Julia Oglesby scored the first two goals of the contest at 15:59 of the first and 74:19 of the second. Junior forward Emily McGuigan added a goal with two seconds remaining in the match.

Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Pegg turned away 4 shots in the shut out victory. Pegg has been named the North Eastern Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the past two weeks.

Keuka 2, Lancaster Bible 1, 2OT

LANCASTER, Pa. — Two extra frames were needed to decide a winner in Saturday’s conference showdown.

Sophomore forward Samba Doukhansy scored the game winning goal 1:44 in the second over time. Senior forward Rohel Duncan scored at the 38:09 mark of the first. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Mavretish stopped 3 shots in the double overtime victory for the Wolves (5-5, 3-2).

KEUKA PARK — The Wolves (2-7) fell to the Dragons in a non-conference match up on Saturday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

After facing a 2-0 deficit, junior forward Shelby Lamb responded by scoring a goal. Riley Albee was credited with the assist. Junior goalkeeper Kassidy Valentine blocked 17 shots in the losing effort.

Allyson Wells and Allyson Bilow scored two goals a piece for Oneonta. While Carissa Warren added a goal herself.

GENEVA — The Herons (4-5, 1-1) came out of the gates with a five goal surge to capture a Liberty League victory on Saturday afternoon.

William Smith was led by freshman forward Shannon Roycroft who slapped home 2 goals. Sorcha McCooey tallied a goal and assist in the contest. Sophie Craig and Fallon Adair scored one goal a piece. Kelsey Pierce and Emma Schafer dished out one assist a piece.

Sophomore goalie Alexandra DeVito made 3 saves in the win.

CAZENOVIA — The Keuka women’s team finished 3 out of 7 at the Cazenovia College Invitational in Saturday’s 5K race. Freshman Kaylie DeSorbo finished with an individual best of 17 with a time of 23:20.4.

The men’s team finished 10 of 11 in the 8K race. Freshman Logan Holthouse finished third with a time of 30:12.6.

MOUNT MORRIS — The William Smith team finished fifth at the Mike Woods Invitational at Letchworth State Park on Saturday. Freshman Riley Poisson finished eighth out of 232 runners in the 6K race, with a time of 23:03.4.

Sophomore Max Tulchinsky finished 41 out of 308 runners in the 8K race, with a time of 27:07.0.
