Cocktail Recipe: Toast your Valentine with “The Court of Love”
It’s Valentine’s Day weekend so if you’re planning to celebrate with a special date night at home, you may want to surprise your Valentine with a toast to start the evening! HI Now hosts Kanoe Gibson and Kainoa Carlson are with Jen Len, beverage director at MW Restaurant, to learn how to make the Court of Love Cocktail.
Len says this cocktail is perfect for the holiday because the Court of Love was part of the original contract written for Valentine’s Day in the 1400’s that said it was to be a day of feast and poetry.
“It’s a celebration of love!” Len explains. “I love to do a little trivia things like that with the names of my cocktails, so I think this was the perfect one for today.”
Recipe: Court of Love Cocktail
1 medium ripe strawberry sliced in half
4 dashes of The Bitter Truth Celery Bitters
3/4 oz. Turbinado Simple Syrup*
1 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
2 oz. Kuleana Huihui Rum
Instructions: In a cocktail shaker, muddle the strawberry with the bitters, simple syrup, and lime juice. Then add the rum and fill your shaker with ice. Seal shaker well, shake hard and fast, and immediately strain into a chilled stemmed glass. Garnish with a large mint leaf or pansy flower, or whatever you have that’s pretty and edible!
*Turbinado Simple Syrup: Combine turbinado sugar with hot water in equal parts and whisk until dissolved. Keep refrigerated for up to 2-3 weeks.
