Chef Hui and Ke Nui Kitchen help feed North Shore communities

Updated: October 1, 2022

In response to severe flooding and devastation throughout the North Shore of O’ahu, organizations such as Chef Hui, Ke Nui Kitchen and Lāhui Foundation teamed up to support some of the hardest-hit communities by distributing meals to those in need, donating supplies and volunteering their time. Chef Thomas Naylor of Ke Nui Kitchen, and ambassador for Chef Hui, played a vital role in ensuring that meals were provided to those who needed it the most during the difficult time.

“Following the aftermath of the flood, we worked to supply Lāhui Foundation with roughly 800 meals to provide to the Hale’iwa and Hau’ula communities,” Chef Naylor says.

Ke Nui Kitchen has also been a “Give and Go” Program Partner for over a year, feeding families affected by the pandemic on the North Shore as part of Chef Hui’s mission to support local farmers and chefs while connecting families to local agriculture.

“We have an amazing team of chefs and packers ensuring that our community is taken care of. I am fortunate enough to have kept our team intact through this pandemic and shift our focus to prepared foods and recovery which was integral in being able to provide relief in an emergency situation,” Chef Naylor adds. “All of my team Lives on the North Shore, so the response was swift and a ton of love was put into the food we provided.”

If folks on the North Shore aren’t in need of Chef Hui distributions, they can get a taste of what Chef Naylor is cooking by checking out kenuikitchen.com for catering. They can also visit openkitchenoahu.com to see what’s available at its concession at Waimea Valley. Ke Nui Kitchen also has Open Kitchen items available on The Oahu Fresh marketplace and are the Chef Partners for the Kau Kau Box.

To help out with the North Shore flood relief efforts, contact Chef Hui and other community partners like the Lāhui Foundation and Sustainable Coastlines.

“A huge way to help would be to support local businesses on that side,” Chef Naylor adds.
