Still trying to figure out your St. Patrick’s Day plans? Now’s your chance to celebrate at Kona Brewing Hawaii Kai with with specialty cocktails and unique dishes! HI Now host Kainoa Carlson met up with Pub Manager James Kiko to get get a first look at some of the restaurant’s tasty holiday offerings.
On St. Patrick’s Day, head down to Kona Brewing Company and try the Dry Side Stout, a special brew that’s currently in the fermentation process. Cocktail specials will be the Spiked Shamrock Cocktail and Midori Dragon Mojito. The Spiked Shamrock is a Green Crème de Menthe, Godiva Chocolate, and Stoli Vanilla Cocktail reminiscent of the classic Grasshopper cocktail and a Shamrock Shake.
The Midori Dragon Mojito is a Bacardi Dragonberry and Midori Melon based mojito topped with Kona Seltzer! Any flavor will work, but the pub uses tropical punch. The green from the Midori comes through the mojito and both cocktails look very festive — perfect for Instagram!
Executive Chef Rob Oset will be cooking up two savory St Patrick’s Day specials influenced by traditional Irish-inspired food. One will be a savory ‘Cottage Pie’ that will include beef, celery, carrots, peas in a dark sauce made with one of the pub’s beers and beef stock topped with parmesan crusted mashed potatoes. The second special will be corned beef and braised cabbage along with a roasted potato pie.
For those Kona Brewing fans out there who are feeling festive, but would rather keep the party at home, you can order these menu options to-go. If folks want to try their hand at bartending at home, they can also pick up a pack of the pub’s Spiked Seltzers to create their own rendition of the Midori Dragon Mojito.
