Caring for Maui’s Keiki: Kama`aina Kids offers preschool programs
Sponsored by Kama`aina Kids
Living in Hawaii and looking for high quality childcare? You’re in luck because Kama`aina Kids operates state-wide! That means you have access to its childcare programs no matter which island you live on. Today, HI Now is giving you a closer look at Kama`aina Kids’ Maui preschools and introducing you to the wonderful staff members that make it a safe and fun environment.
Kama`aina Kids currently runs five licensed preschools on Maui: Kahului Preschool, Lahaina Preschool, Makawao Preschool, Hina Preschool, and Piilani Preschool. All locations open at 7 a.m. and close at 5 or 5:30 p.m. Every location is a little different, with some serving keiki as young as six weeks old!
During the pandemic, Kama`aina Kids programs are operating at smaller capacities and have implemented elevated sanitation routines. All staff are required to wear protective equipment such as masks and gloves and keiki are screened every morning before coming on campus with a temperature check and some questions about their health.
“We are limiting the number of people on campus and keeping communication open with parents,” says Kanoe Salomon, a teacher and registered behavioral technician with Kama`aina Kids. “We are also prepared to follow the CDC approved protocol if we learn of any type of COVID exposure or risk.”
For a lot of new parents, choosing a preschool is a big deal. Kama`aina Kids can help find the right fit through tours so parents can see the campus, meet the staff, and ask questions.
“Unfortunately with the pandemic, we aren’t able to offer in person tours right now,” Salomon says. “But we are offering virtual tours scheduled through Zoom or Facetime so we can still show them around and answer any questions they have!”
