Barbers Point Bowling Center: Fun for the whole family on Oahu’s west side
Sponsored by Cutter Chevrolet
Looking for some affordable family fun? Well look no further than Barbers Point Bowling Center! HI Now hosts Kanoe Gibson and Kainoa Carlson dropped by to check it out and knock down some pins!
Owners Bev Brennan and Linda Painter both grew up bowling and saw the need for a center on Oahu’s west side. The Navy owned and operated the center until September 2008, and the partners eventually opened up Barbers Point Bowling in October 2010.
In September 2018, the center underwent a total upgrade, including the installation of new synthetic lanes and the latest scoring system that offers a variety of games you can play if you want something different than the traditional 10-frame game.
Just like all small businesses, COVID-19 hit Barbers Point Bowling hard. The center voluntarily closed in March 2020 and spent three months doing a deep clean, implementing safety protocols that went above and beyond what was required by the city in order to make sure its guests and staff were safe.
During normal times, Barbers Point Bowling offers open leagues, two senior leagues and a Saturday morning instructional league for youth ages 4-20. It also offers a monthly “No-Tap” adult tournament, and one of its biggest events it the annual “Bowl for Boobies” tournament to raise money for breast cancer treatment in Hawaii. The owners hope this tradition can continue in 2021.
While you’re bowling, you’ll probably get hungry, so be sure to check out the Prop Stop Snack Bar where Chef Jocelyn Robello is creating new items and a buzz in the neighborhood. You’ll find more than your typical burgers and fries there, as Chef Robello has added her Peaches n Waffles, Chicken Katsu Curry plate, Tuna Won Ton Pupus, and Deep-Fried Oreo cookies to the menu. There are even breakfast options available all day for you breakfast lovers!
So be sure to check out Barbers Point Bowling Center for some family fun in 2021!
