Afternoon Blues: Make this refreshing Spring cocktail at home
Spring is in the air! And that means it’s time to whip up some delicious, fresh cocktails to cool you down. HI Now hosts Kanoe Gibson and Kainoa Carlson are back with Jen Len, beverage director at MW Restaurant, to demonstrate a new cocktail recipe that’s perfect for the season.
Today, Len is making what she calls the Afternoon Blues, and you can believe this cocktail will cure those in an instant!
“Today we’re actually gonna be using some blueberry,” Len begins. “When we have such a saturation of color, it always kind of catches our eye. And I think that’s what Spring always kind of brings — when there’s flowers, you always have to look around.”
In the cocktail, you’ll find some Ki No Bi, Japanese gin from Kyoto.
“They actually have a little bit of yuzu in their botanical recipe, so we’re going to accent it with a little bit of yuzu juice,” Len explains. “I do like to add a little lemon juice too, just ’cause it doesn’t quite have the same sort of citrus backbone. The flavor is so distinct, it’s just so wonderful in cocktails.”
That gin, yuzu and lemon juice are then followed up with some blueberry purée, cinnamon, and fresh pineapple juice. Shake that all up, and you’ve got yourself the Afternoon Blues!
Right now, Len says MW Restart is using a lot of berries and flowers in their cocktail menu selection this season. So if you like what you’re seeing, be sure to head over and check it out!
“Anything that’s really pretty and tastes really good that’s colorful always works,” she adds.
